VGP – A panel of the World Trade Organization (WTO) yesterday in Geneva, Switzerland, started to judge Việt Nam’s lawsuit against the US imposition of anti-dumping tax on made-in-Việt Nam frozen shrimp.
On the first hearing day, the panel listened to the two sides’ arguments and opinions regarding the lawsuit.
The Vietnamese delegation showed their proofs to claim for legitimate rights of Vietnamese shrimp exporters.
Earlier, in March 2010, both Việt Nam and the US conducted consultations to settle their trade dispute on shrimp export. However, the two sides failed to seek an appropriate solution.
Hence, Việt Nam requested the WTO to set up a dispute settlement panel to examine the US’s “zeroing” method on calculating anti-dumping duties on imported frozen shrimp.
The panel, three members of which were appointed by WTO Director General Pascal Lamy, has considered the lawsuit since late August.
